For Help on MidwayR
How to obtain an Account on MidwayR
To use MidwayR for storing and analyzing sensitive data all users need:
- an account
- to have enabled two-factor authentication for your CNetID.
- to have one of the following: a Data User Agreement executed by the University Research Administration, the user generates sensitive data, or the user works with data under IRB restrictions.
- to let us know what resources and software they need to perform their analysis
Accounts
MidwayR uses UChicago CNetID to authenticate users. Similar to Midway, there are two types of MidwayR accounts:
- Principal Investigator (PI) accounts
- General User accounts
Even if you have a PI or user account on the RCC Midway system, you will need to apply for a separate MidwayR PI or
General User account in order to access MidwayR resources.
Eligibility
All University of Chicago faculty and staff researchers working with sensitive data and who are eligible to be Principal Investigators (PI) on a grant are eligible to obtain a MidwayR PI account by completing a MidwayR PI Account Request. See Principal Investigator Eligibility for information about the University’s policy concerning PI eligibility. All General Users must be sponsored by a PI with an active MidwayR account in order to obtain a MidwayR General User account.
Categories of Sensitive Data
Below are different categories of data that can be hosted on MidwayR:
- Incoming Sensitive data received from a third party with a data user agreement (DUA) signed by the University of Chicago Research Administration (URA).
- Sensitive data restricted by an IRB protocol
- Sensitive data generated at the University of Chicago by a project that needs a place to be stored and analyzed.
Sensitive data from these categories will fall under different data classifications depending on the level of data sensitivity, the requirements in the data user agreement (if available), and criticality of the liability.
